For almost a decade now, I’ve been taking the Halfday Garment Duffel on everything from weekend trips to long vacations. Because I tend not to go anywhere without at least one blazer, I’ve become reliant on the form and function of the dual-purpose bag. Now, Halfday has released a premium version of the Garment Duffel, featuring a new material and touches that make it the perfect companion on the type of trip that’s become more frequent of recent — golf trips. Here’s why I take it every time.
Where Halfday’s Garment Duffel has always come in handy for blazers and suits, it also serves as a trusty companion for transporting my favorite polos and golfwear. I’m far too obsessed with clothing than a normal human being should be, which means, I’ll treat a quarter zip or a sweater with the same care I would a tuxedo. For golf trips, they’re getting hung, secured, and zipped into the Garment Duffel first. For this trip, I was taking a vintage Dior sweater I stole from my dad to wear at Spanish Bay, one of the most beloved properties at Pebble Beach’s iconic golf resort. As you can imagine, I needed this sweater to stay wrinkle-free.
Halfday’s Premium Garment Duffel features even more compartments than the OG, which is perfect for a weekend golf trip. Sure I’ve got a golf bag full of ball markers, divot fixers, and all kinds of golf accoutrement. But when I’ve got a short trip and one round ahead, I like to pack the VIPs along with my clothes so I remember to put them in my pocket when I leave the hotel. These features also help me lighten the load. For this trip, I brought more clothes than I needed to, but if I had packed less clothes, my laptop and electronics would have all fit in here nicely and I would have been able to ditch the backpack I brought, too.
Even though it’s a carry-on, and I’ll be handling it myself, I’m still going to toss this thing around a good bit on the way to the airport. Halfday’s premium fabrics hold up to that and more. I was able to drag this through LAX and stuff it easily into the overhead compartment of a smaller plane (the kind for shorter trips with less storage space). When I got back home to L.A. after the three-day weekend, it was almost as if I just unwrapped it.
I know this is a bag that’s going to last, and honestly only get cooler as it wears down.
